Bullring & Grand Central are Hammerson-operated shopping centres. As a business, we aim to create retail destinations that deliver net positive impacts economically, socially and environmentally, through leading-edge design, operational efficiency and a culture of respect and responsibility. By 2030 we will be a Net Positive company for carbon, resource use, water and socio-economic impacts.

At Bullring and Grand Central we are working with Hammerson to reduce our environmental impacts.
In 2020 we achieved the below savings in comparison to the previous year:
Bullring
Energy consumption
Our electricity consumption was 5,360,825 kWh, which is a 13% reduction from 2019. This reduction is equivalent to supplying energy for 267 houses.
Water usage
We have saved 34% on our water consumption, which is the equivalent to 5 Olympic sized swimming pools.
Recycling
We recycled 51% of our waste. 913 tonnes of waste was recycled which is the equivalent weight of 5 blue whales.
Socio-economic
Our Positive Places Plan created each year underpins our community engagement activity. Through engagement with local schools, partners and stakeholders, we build a positive relationship with the local community.
Grand Central
Energy consumption
Our electricity consumption was 1,336,248 kWh, which is a 20% reduction from 2019. This reduction is equivalent to supplying energy for 108 houses. Water usage
We have saved 55% on our water consumption, which is the equivalent to 5 Olympic sized swimming pools. Recycling
We recycled 42% of our waste. 329 tonnes of waste was recycled which is the equivalent weight of 2 blue whales.
Socio-economic
Our Positive Places Plan created each year underpins our community engagement activity. Through engagement with local schools, partners and stakeholders, we build a positive relationship with the local community.
Our key projects in 2021 include:
Installing further LED lighting in our carparks and back of house areas to reduce our carbon emissions.
Increasing biodiversity around the centre and installing another bee hive on our roof.
Designing a mural with local primary schools and local artists which will be displayed in the centre.
